Following a poor run of form, League One Swindon Town's manager
Maurice Malplas has brought in a hypnotherapist to work with the team
on an individual and team basis. Initial signs are good, as Swindon
went on to win their first home game in 5 matches.
US Karate Champion overcomes injury with hypnosis
After being off injured for 6 months, US karate champion Billy
Finegan struggled to get back on form as the injury played in his mind
whenever he competed. At the suggestion of his coach, Finnegan visited
a hypnotist in his hometown, and within 3 sessions he regained his
confidence and won the National Championships. He now uses
self-hypnosis regularly.
Hypnosis helps pole vaulter reach new heights
Australian Steve Hooker cleared 5.9m yesterday to take the
gold
medal at the Beijing Olympics, Autralia's first gold in athletics since
2000. Hooker credits his success to hypnotherapy which helped him
overcome his fear of vaulting and taught him effective visualisation,
which he used to visualise himself in the Bird's Nest stadium leading
up to the games. Hooker's much improved confidence has him knowing what
the result will be before he's even started his run-up.
Sports Hypnosis gets Olympic Gold!
Over the weekend, 19-year old American Vincent Hancock took
gold in the Olympic Skeet in Beijing. Hancock ended up in a
shoot-off with Norwegian Tore Brovold, and went on to win when Brovold
was the first to miss. The US team's sports psychologist, Daniel
Vitchoff, credited Hancock's calmness and intensity to the
psychologist's use of hypnosis to teach him how to relax, control his
emotions and stay positive.
American Football gets a does of hypnosis
The Nevada football team has revealed that hypnosis has been a
central part of their training for over a year, thanks to a team
members father who is a sports psychologist. Dr Brian Lippincott
hypnotises the players before each match to help them be more
aggressive and to think clearly .
MotoGP star boost confidence with hypnosis
The Independent interviews Spanish MotoGP star Jorge Lorenzo

his battles with crashes, injuries and his father. Following a
tempestuous season, and increasingly unsporting behaviour, Jorge went

Following a number of injuries and resultant surgery, Rugby League star Shontayne Hape has revealed hypnosis helped him cope with the mental strain of three operations to his knee.
